Hats off to the Class of 2012!
Each year, Our Kids – the agency that oversees the child welfare system in Miami-Dade County – honors current and former foster youth who graduate from high school, college, and other programs, or earn their GED. It is a grand celebration that brings together hundreds of community leaders, foster care advocates and workers, and families to celebrate these students’ fantastic accomplishments.
Several Casa Valentina and Emmaus Place residents participated in this year’s ceremony, which took place on June 6. We are so proud of our hard-working grads for their academic success!
At the event, University of Miami President Donna Shalala presented the keynote address. She said: “This transition is a momentous step in their lives, and agency partners and continued community support are the key to their success.”
All graduates received an iPad and a laptop to help support their future academic endeavors.
